No matter what path my students pursue, their experience at the Colcord Studio School will enhance their ability to solve problems, understand others, and appreciate the world around them.

Studying and learning to appreciate art is key to the development of the right brain, where inventive, empathic and big-picture capabilities are processed.

By creating art, kids develop the unique ability to recognizing patterns, cross boundaries to uncover hidden connections, and make bold leaps of imagination.

There have been many studies on the importance of developing the right brain at an early age to compete with the future job market in a creative way. Author Daniel H. Pink states in his book “A Whole New Mind.”

“The last few decades have belonged to a certain kind of person with a certain kind of mind – computer programmers who could crank code, lawyers who could craft contracts, MBAs who could crunch numbers.  But the keys to the kingdom are changing hands.  The future belongs to a very different kind of person with a very different kind of mind – creators and empathizers, pattern recognizers, and meaning makers.  These people – big picture thinkers, artists, inventors, designers, storytellers, empathizers – will now reap society’s richest rewards and share its greatest joys.”
